I think it’s safe to say that winter is in full effect and outdoor activities have pretty much come to a screeching halt. So what to do when you are stuck in a polar vortex besides read your favorite bank’s blog posts, how about some of these indoor activities!
Catch up on your sleep. There’s nothing better than taking a mid-afternoon nap.
Write a letter to a friend or family member you haven’t seen in a while. Yes, an old fashioned letter…the type you write with a pen and paper. It will make them smile when the mail comes.
Plan a vacation. Spending so much time indoors while the weather outside is awful is the best time to put your imagination in overdrive. Whether it’s just a weekend away or a trip for the summer, it’s time to start planning that getaway. If you’re on a budget, there are always deals to be found on sites like Living Social, Expedia and Groupon to get you started.
Write a bucket list. Bucket lists are always a good idea, whether you’re making one for your life or just for the year. Take a little while to jot down everything you’ve ever wanted to do.
Do your taxes. Yeah, I don’t want to do them either. But before you know it, April 15 will be here. Plus, if you are getting a refund, why not get that cash now? Maybe you can use the extra money to buy a really nice Valentine’s Day gift — or, perhaps, a new, more-powerful snow blower.
Clean. Spring cleaning is overrated. Who wants to spend time scrubbing their floors when the weather is finally nice after three months of winter? Since we’ve just gotten into the coldest part of the year, take some time to clean your nest so that you’ll be cozy instead of cranky.
Have an indoor scavenger hunt. Make a board with three columns starting with letters A through Z. Go around the house looking for things which start with each letter. First to find them all gets dinner made by the other participant.
Karaoke to anything and everything on your iPod. And while you’re at it…dance like nobody is watching.
Torture your pets by making them wear costumes and/or hats. Then take photographs and post for all your friends to see.
Movie Marathon. Movie series are great because just when you get depressed that your beloved characters are almost done, you remember that OH YEAH! It’s ‘to be continued’ for your viewing pleasure! Here are some of my personal favorites for an all-day marathon:
- Harry Potter
- Lord of the Rings
- Indiana Jones
- The Godfather
- The Jason Bourne series
- Toy Story
- Back to the Future
- Star Wars
And if you’re brave enough to venture outside, here’s an idea you can try outside, just don’t stay out too long.
Freeze bubbles. Grab some of the bubble solution left over from the summer and heat slightly until it is warm to the touch. Head outside; blow several bubbles and catch one on the bubble blowing wand. Let the bubble rest in the cold air and watch it freeze into a crystal ball.
What are some creative ways you have fun indoors during the cold?
